National Heritage Fellowships
25th Anniversary Celebration
The highest honor our nation bestows upon its folk and traditional artists, the NEA National Heritage Fellowships has, since 1982, honored 338 of America’s “national living treasures” including: Mavis Staples, Ralph Stanley, Doc Watson, Liz Carroll, Jerry Douglas, Pinetop Perkins, Michael Doucet, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Koko Taylor, Zakir Hussain, and Ali Akbar Khan, just to name a few.
Many of these extraordinary Fellows and others have been featured in special concert programs throughout the year in celebration of the 25th anniversary. To date, there have been more than 52 presentations featuring NEA National Heritage Fellows. Below is a listing of performances still to come in 2008:
